Description

Visualizing Music: Tap
Ages 13–18
What if dance could become music you can see?
In this advanced tap and musicality class, students will explore the deep connection between rhythm, movement, and music theory while training in tap as both a dance form and a percussive instrument. Through intricate footwork, rhythmic layering, improvisation, and musical analysis, dancers will learn how to physically embody music and create sound with clarity, intention, and artistry.
Students will work on:
  • Intermediate to advanced tap technique
  • Rhythm, syncopation, and musical phrasing
  • Improvisation and rhythmic composition
  • Musicality and dynamic performance quality
  • Music theory fundamentals for dancers
  • Understanding tap as percussion and storytelling
  • Ensemble timing, listening, and collaboration
This class challenges dancers to think beyond choreography and begin viewing movement as composition. Students will explore how rhythm can communicate emotion, tension, energy, and narrative while developing stronger musicianship and performance confidence.
Tap is more than steps—it is the art of making music visible.
