Acting Through Song
In Truth in the Tune, students will learn how to transform a song into a fully realized performance by uncovering the story, intention, and emotional beats hidden within the music.
This class begins with smart song selection, choosing material that fits each student’s vocal strengths, character type, and storytelling voice. Once students have chosen their songs, they will break down the lyrics as if they were a monologue, discovering the character’s wants, obstacles, tactics, and turning points.
From there, students will dive into acting technique, learning how to map out the beats and emotional shifts that drive the story forward. After grounding the piece in truthful acting, they’ll bring it back to the music; layering vocal choices, phrasing, and musicality that support and elevate their character’s journey.
By the end of the session, each student will not only perform a polished acting-through-song piece, but also understand the full process behind it:
