Intro to Flamenco & Improvised Dance
Ages 13–18
Step into the passionate and expressive world of flamenco dance while exploring the art of movement partnership, storytelling, and improvisation.
Taught by renowned artist Martin Gaxiola, this class will introduce students to the foundational techniques, rhythms, posture, musicality, and emotional intensity of traditional flamenco while also encouraging dancers to explore spontaneity, connection, and scene work through movement.
Students will learn:
- Foundational flamenco technique and footwork
- Musicality, rhythm, and timing
- Expressive arm and upper body movement
- Improvisation and emotional storytelling through dance
- Partner connection and scene-based movement work
- Stage presence, confidence, and performance artistry
More than just choreography, flamenco is a conversation—between dancers, musicians, emotion, and story. Students will explore how movement can communicate tension, relationship, vulnerability, power, and character without ever speaking a word.
This class is perfect for dancers and performers looking to expand their artistry, physical storytelling, and understanding of classical dance styles in a bold and deeply expressive environment.
