Description

“But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?”

Shakespeare was never meant to live quietly on a page. In Advanced Scenework: Acting Shakespeare, students will explore how to bring classical text to life through strong acting technique, dynamic partner work, and truthful connection.
Using Stanislavski-based scene study, actors will dig into objectives, obstacles, tactics, given circumstances, relationships, and moment-to-moment listening while learning how Shakespeare’s language provides clues for performance. Students will develop the skills to break down heightened text, make bold and specific acting choices, and respond authentically to a scene partner rather than simply “performing Shakespeare.”
The emphasis of this class is on technique and scene partnership, challenging actors to stay present, pursue what they want, affect their partner, and allow themselves to be changed in return.
Students will apply these skills throughout the session by rehearsing a Shakespearean scene with a partner, culminating in a polished scene performance for the final showcase.
