Description

What makes an actor stand out in the audition room? It’s more than talent. It’s preparation, confidence, adaptability, and the ability to make bold choices under pressure.
In Art of Auditioning, students will develop the practical skills needed to walk into an audition room prepared to do their best work. Throughout the session, actors will explore the essential elements of a successful audition, from preparing material and making strong acting choices to communicating professionally and confidently with a casting team.
Through cold reads, monologue work, improvisation, mock auditions, redirects, and on-the-spot adjustments, students will practice thinking quickly, taking direction, making specific choices, and staying grounded when the unexpected happens. Actors will also learn how to enter the room with confidence, introduce themselves clearly, recover from mistakes, and bring their own personality to an audition without losing focus on the work.
Most importantly, students will discover that a successful audition isn’t simply about getting the role. It’s about doing prepared, courageous work and leaving the room proud of what they brought to it.
By the end of the session, students will have a stronger audition toolbox, greater performance confidence, and practical techniques they can carry into CYT auditions, other theatrical opportunities, and beyond.

Hosannah Adams

Hello! My name is Hosannah Adams and I am a senior at Grand Canyon University pursuing my Theatre for Secondary Education degree! I have grown up performing and have always loved the aspect of theatre that requires immense feats of teamwork to bring so many elements together to tell a beautiful, cohesive story. As I have grown in my faith and understanding, it is so wonderful to see that we are all part of a story in an even grander scale throughout time and history - one of God’s plan for redemption of people through His Son! Theatre is such a unique way to bring stories of redemption and hope to the people around us, reflecting the truth of the greatest Story. I am thrilled to be teaching this class, and I look forward to working with you!
